Mercedes, you are successful and famous, often gracing the covers of magazines. Your acting career spans not only Canada but also Los Angeles and Budapest. Could you tell us about the most interesting cultural differences you’ve encountered in the working environment? What do you remember about filming The Boys, the project that brought you huge fame? And what are your latest works that we should know about?
Each country I’ve worked in offers a unique approach to filmmaking, and navigating these differences has been both challenging and enriching. In Canada, the work environment is highly collaborative, with a strong emphasis on team dynamics. Los Angeles, being the heart of the entertainment industry, is fast-paced and competitive, yet there is also a deep focus on professionalism. Filming in Budapest was especially interesting due to the country’s rich cinematic history. The local actors there are incredibly passionate about their craft, which inspired me to explore the emotional layers of my character even more deeply. On the set of The Boys, I recall the camaraderie between the cast and crew, and the strong sense of shared purpose. It was a whirlwind of excitement and adrenaline, but also incredibly rewarding. As for my latest work, I’ll be staying in Los Angeles and focusing on my next feature film.
Your career spans several areas: acting, an active presence on social media, and writing. Your TikTok account has millions of subscribers. How do you balance these different pursuits, and what do you think is key to achieving success in each of them? What do you consider the most important aspect of building a successful personal brand in the digital age?
Balancing my acting career, social media presence, and writing is certainly challenging. I try to stay disciplined with my schedule. When I’m on set, my focus is entirely on the work at hand, but I also set aside specific times each day for social media engagement and writing. I’ve come to realise that success in each area boils down to being genuine and connecting with my audience. I’ve worked hard to build a personal brand centred around authenticity, creativity, and inspiring others to stay true to themselves. In the digital age, the key to success is consistency and staying aligned with your values, which gives everything you do a sense of cohesion and meaning.
In your new book, you explore the psychological aspects of stardom on social media, discussing the importance of authenticity and the challenges of idealization online. What strategies do you use to maintain your psychological and emotional balance despite the pressure of public opinion? How do you stay true to yourself in a world that constantly pushes for perfection? How do you maintain integrity in an environment where perfection is the standard?
In my new book, I delve into the reality of stardom on social media, particularly the psychological toll it can take. The pressure to appear perfect or to present an idealized version of oneself online is very real, and it can be exhausting. To protect my emotional well-being, I set boundaries. I try to limit my time on social media and make sure to take regular digital detoxes. Authenticity is central to my approach; I share my genuine thoughts, struggles, and moments of vulnerability. I also rely on close friends and a strong support system to keep me grounded. In a world where everyone strives for perfection, I’ve learned to embrace imperfection and remind myself that my worth isn’t defined by likes or followers. Staying true to who you are means being comfortable in your own skin, even when the world around you demands more.

Before attending LB Acting Studios in Toronto, you studied project management. How has that experience helped you in your career as a movie star?
Studying project management before pursuing acting has been incredibly beneficial. It taught me how to organize, prioritize, and approach my work with structure and efficiency—skills that are crucial in managing my acting career, especially when juggling multiple projects at once. The ability to balance different roles, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with a team has given me a distinct advantage. It’s all about managing expectations—whether for a film project or my personal brand—and ensuring everything runs smoothly.
